Introduction

Al Ghurair University, is committed to excellence in higher education, and is engaged in an ongoing quest for continuous self-improvement. Hence, a comprehensive institutional effectiveness system is necessary. This operation is made central to all of the University’s educational programs and operations. The main purpose of the Institutional effectiveness operation is to document quality and effectiveness in all major operations such as:

  • Educational programs
  • Support services units
  • Administrative units
  • Facilities, Equipment & Fiscal resources

The institutional effectiveness operation is an ongoing process. It involves a systematic gathering, analyzing and interpreting data related to the performance of all the University’s units and operations. The resulting information is used to, explain and improve performance.

The Institutional Research Office is responsible for implementing the Institutional Effectiveness system

Methods and Measures

Institutional Research is used as an effective means in collecting and analyzing data and disseminating results important for an effective operation of the institution. Self-evaluation, peer review, benchmarking and performance indicators, techniques are used as appropriate.

Mission

The mission of Institutional Research is to carry out assessment, evaluation and continuous improvement of the resources, operations and processes of academic programs and support units. The office conducts research activities. It works effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including the senior management of the university, the committees constituted by colleges and other bodies, to fulfill the commitment to institutional effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • To obtain information necessary for assessment, evaluation and improvement of Academic programs, support services and University operations by conducting market surveys, benchmarking studies and other appropriate means.
  • To initiate establishment of academic programs, administrative and academic units based on need revealed by the results of research and surveys.
  • To develop and implement, in coordination with the different University units, procedures, researches and surveys to obtain information regarding achievements and performance of administrative, academic and support units of the University to evaluate the performance of each unit.
  • To use the results of the assessment to document, explain and improve performance of the administrative and educational support services units.
  • To present annual reports to the President on the performance of all the University units and recommend any improvements based on research and survey results.
  • To develop data bases, collect and keep information and statistics regarding academic and administrative matters, students, personnel, services, fiscal resources etc. from the various academic and administrative units of the University.
  • To establish an archives section for the purpose of keeping all academic, administrative and financial documents and reports produced by the various units, Boards and Committees of the University.
  • To conduct periodical evaluation of its success in achieving its goals and incorporate the results to improve its performance.
  • To perform any other responsibilities of the same nature assigned by the President.
