I would like to welcome you heartily to the Department of Foundation and General Studies (DFGS). The DFGS is dedicated to preparing undergraduate students to meet the required criteria of academic study across the multidisciplinary academic courses of Al Ghurair University. It provides students prerequisite support and equips them with practical skills necessary for their education at the university. The department offers two separate programs to the students: General purpose program and a Foundation Program. The General Studies Program provides undergraduate students opportunities to develop their intellectual, analytical, social, lingual, and technical skills. The foundation program, launched in 2010 is designed according to the UAE Government’s strategy requirements to enable secondary school students to succeed at university level. DFGS offers the following courses: English communication, English composition, Technical writing, Research and Learning Skills, General Mathematics, Fundamentals of Statistics, Computer Applications and Technology, Environmental Studies, UAE Society, Islamic Studies, and Reasoning as well as Critical Thinking.
Enriched with a Resource & Writing Centre and a Language Lab, the DFGS provides all our students at AGU, an opportunity to improve their composing and rhetorical skills. Individual assistance is also given. The Language Lab is designed to empower students through an interactive multimedia language and learning experience. DFGS is also equipped with audio visual facilities, modern interactive boards, free access to available internet databases and study materials, online dictionary and library facilities, all of which enhance learning.
