I take great pleasure in welcoming you to the College of Engineering and Computing at Al Ghurair University. The college provides opportunities to students to combine theoretical engineering and science studies with experimental and professional practice through lab work and industrial internships, offering the prospect of the best in engineering education.
The College of Engineering strives to maintain the highest level of institutional integrity and remains committed to the ever-evolving ideals of education, including intellectual rigor, service to others, and service to faith, with the promotion of justice for all as an absolute requirement. In pursuit of this, the College commits its resources to the development of the intellectual capital and skills of its students and faculty across disciplines, and devotes the material means needed to support a robust learning environment. The College’s graduates will have mastered theoretical and practical knowledge of engineering skills, and will have acquired additional competencies in communications, critical judgment, social responsibility, and a sense of economic and ethical values. They will be suitably equipped to achieve the educational objectives of their studies in the College of Engineering and Computing.
The faculty is well qualified, being a doctorate in their respective field of specialization. At the same time, they are always ready and eager to share their wide knowledge gained through a long experience in different academic institutions throughout the World. The students experience a completely different kind of learning experience through well-prepared and documented experiments in the college well-equipped laboratories.
Our undergraduate studies include a significant core of courses that aim to endow our engineering graduates with competencies that transform them into thinking qualified professional and lifelong learners. Additionally, our ambition is to enable all our students to assume positions of technical leadership and professional responsibility, and to achieve full satisfaction in their jobs, or in graduate studies, upon graduation from Al Ghurair University. Furthermore, we train our graduates to become energetic participants in the social changes brought about by engineering and technology, in the course of time.
You can see the views of some of our labs on the web site. You are also free to visit the college, interact with our faculty and staff, visit the labs and have a preview of the wonderful learning experience you would go through before you finalize your decision.
On behalf of the entire College of Engineering and Computing faculty and staff, I extend my warm welcome. At College of Engineering and Computing, Education is a Journey not a Destination.
Dean’s Message
I warmly welcome you to the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) of Al Ghurair University (AGU). The College has four programs: Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (BSEEE), Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering (BSCSE), Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems (BSCIS), and Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME). All programs are accredited by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In addition, BSEEE is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), and other programs are going through the process. The CEC is the largest college of the AGU with many students in various stages of their education. All CEC faculty have Ph.D. from internationally renowned universities, diverse backgrounds and ethnic origins. At the CEC, we are firmly committed to equality, inclusivity and gender balance.
As part of the AGU, we believe in providing state-of-the-art education to all our students. Our education strategy is well aligned with the vision of the government based on the UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda, which emphasizes the development of a first-rate education system. We at the CEC are spearheading the education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Along with our classroom teaching, we provide our students with one-to-one personal advisory services for their career development and internship opportunities in the industry working on real-world projects. We continuously look for changes and development to ensure our students get the best of the educational experiences that will not only make them our bright engineers, scientists and technological leaders in the future but also respected and valued citizens.
The CEC has a firm policy of continuous improvements. We have been developing and promoting our laboratories and their use in educational activities. Recently we have heavily invested in establishing our mechanical engineering laboratories equipped with the latest advanced research and educational equipment. Furthermore, we are continuously upgrading our facilities for electrical and electronics, and computer science programs. We have also been focusing on our faculty and staff by providing them with the Professional Development Plan (PDP) to enhance their teaching and learning skills. Besides, the CEC has introduced strategies to enhance the Research and Development (R&D) activities, and efforts are being made to establish dedicated R&D centers on various disciplines. We are continuously updating the teaching resources and integrating digital learning.
Our college is indeed fortunate to be well connected with the Government of the UAE and nation’s industries. The members of our Advisory Board are well-known individuals who hold influential positions, and have a strong association with our distinguished alumni. We take great pride in the achievements of our students, past and present. We are strengthening our relationship with the Society of Engineers – UAE and closely collaborating with other higher education engineering institutions within the UAE and abroad.
In 2019, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the founding of our University. At that momentous occasion we held many special events throughout the year including a highly prestigious international conference, MULTIPHYSICS 2019, on our University campus with a great participation from our partners and indeed our faculty within the College.
